One tyre replaced
Sometimes one is all you need — and we will say so.
A single tyre is the right job when the other one on that axle still has plenty of tread. A nail through the sidewall, a kerbed rim, a blowout — these happen to one tyre, not four.
What we will not do is sell you a set when you need one. We measure the tread on the matching side first, and if it is close enough we fit one and you keep your money.
How you know you need it
- Damage that cannot be repaired — sidewall cut, bulge, or a puncture in the shoulder
- One tyre has worn much faster than its partner, usually a sign of an alignment problem
- A spare that has been on long enough and needs replacing with a proper tyre
What we actually do
- 1 We measure both tyres on the axle before recommending anything
- 2 New valve, machine balance, correct torque
- 3 If the wear was uneven, we point out why — usually alignment
Questions about this job
Will one new tyre affect the handling?
Not if the matching tyre has similar tread depth. If the difference is more than about 2mm across an axle, you will feel it under braking and we will tell you.
Does it have to be the same brand?
The same axle should have the same size and ideally a similar type. Different brands across an axle is usually fine; different patterns on the same axle is not ideal.
